The Opportunity

Emerge Tennessee Executive Director

Founded in 2017, Emerge Tennessee is a political leadership training organization for Democratic women in Tennessee. Our mission is to recruit, train, and inspire Democratic women to pursue public office at the local, state and national levels through our 6-month campaign-training program. Emerge Tennessee is an affiliate of Emerge, a national organization currently working in 27 states.


Program

The Emerge Tennessee Executive Director will:

  • Manage program member outreach, recruitment, and the selection process with the Emerge Tennessee Board;
  • Identify, secure, and support Emerge curriculum trainers; and,
  • Organize training sessions of the Emerge program, including scheduling speakers, securing training locations, organizing curriculum materials, and food/beverage for each session.

Fundraising and Financial Oversight

The Emerge Tennessee Executive Director will:

  • Maintain a highly effective and efficient organization as measured by revenue growth and major donor development to support priorities;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with existing large donors, as well as cultivate new large donor prospects;
  • Develop and maintain an effective grassroots fundraising strategy;
  • Engage Board Members in donor and alumnae activities and relationship building;
  • Work with Board Members to develop individual board member fundraising goals and plans to achieve their individual goals;
  • Develop and manage annual budgets that are aligned to strategic goals of the organization; and,
  • Ensure financial soundness, transparency and high ethical standards in the financial and administrative activities of Emerge Tennessee.

Partnerships and Relationships

The Emerge Tennessee Executive Director will:

  • Represent Emerge Tennessee in a variety of capacities (meetings, speeches, panels, councils) throughout the state;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with elected officials, donors, activists, non-profit organizations, press and others within the Tennessee Democratic political and progressive communities;
  • Coordinate with the Emerge national umbrella organization and other Emerge state affiliates;
  • Maintain the Emerge Tennessee database of donors, alumnae, and other parties as well as the Emerge Tennessee website, including e-mail releases and social media management of Twitter and Facebook pages;
  • Manage relationships with the broader Emerge Tennessee community, including program members, donors, alumnae, friends and advisors; and,
  • Oversee the overall communications strategy.

Advisory Board and Committee Facilitation

The Emerge Tennessee Executive Director will:

  • Oversee and collaborate with the Advisory Board to achieve the goals of the organization; and,
  • Oversee and manage the work of any board committees.

Ideal Experience and Capabilities

We are seeking a strong leader with deep passion for our mission who can lead Emerge Tennessee. The ideal person is a creative problem solver and entrepreneurial self-starter.  The ideal candidate possesses:

  • A significant and proven track record of fundraising, including raising major gifts;
  • Experience working in statewide politics preferred;
  • Strong, persuasive communication skills and is comfortable being the public face of the organization in a variety of settings, ranging from small, intimate meetings to large public forums, including conventional and social media;
  • Excellent organizational skills and can manage multiple and varied projects;
  • Demonstrated commitment to Democratic political organizing;
  • Passion for the issue of advancing women in politics;
  • Knowledge of women’s political leadership issues and politics;
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with diverse and multi-cultural constituencies, including advisory board, staff, donors, volunteers and an array of supporters and stakeholders;
  • Excellent administrative skills;
  • Effective multi-tasking abilities and efficiency in time management;
  • Experience with press; and,
  • Experience with NGP (preferred but not required).

BENEFITS
: Compensation, Job Location & Schedule

  • Emerge Tennessee offers a competitive salary commensurate on experience, within the range of $60,000 – $70,000;
  • Benefits will be provided;
  • Emerge Tennessee is a statewide organization, so the Executive Director may be located anywhere in Tennessee;
  • The job includes statewide travel with some evening and weekend work. A valid driver’s license is required;
  • Full-time and flexible hours.
